New State Office Expedites Medical Marijuana Patient Application Process

Nevada Medical Marijuana Patients

Nevada medical marijuana patient applicants no longer have to wait several weeks for their approval notification because the state has approved a new method of approving applicants allowing for same-day approvals. For patients suffering from terminal and serious illnesses like cancer and multiple sclerosis, an effective treatment option is required sooner rather than later.

Rather than having to mail forms and wait on the postal service to deliver them, patients now have a central location to go to in southern Nevada for their approvals, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The new location of the Division of Public and Behavioral Health has opened in partnership with the Nevada Dispensary Association specifically for this reason. The office is located at 2300 W Sahara Ave #800, Las Vegas, NV 89102.

Deputy administrator Joe Pollock said, “We are pleased to expedite, improve and simplify this process to make the medical use of marijuana more readily accessible for patients.”

In regards to the new approval program, Nevada Dispensary Association Executive Director Riana Durrett said, “It will allow them to obtain medicine the same day they start the application process” and “no longer having to mail applications to Carson City is a tangible benefit for cancer and multiple sclerosis patients who, after obtaining a doctor’s recommendation for medical marijuana, had to wait weeks before getting prescriptions filled.”

The process for approval involves approval by a licensed Nevada doctor and working with participating dispensary staff to properly fill out applications. Assisting dispensaries will make appointments for prospective patients with the application office.
