U.S. Lawmakers to Introduce New Federal Cannabis Decriminalization Bill

Congress Marijuana

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler and presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris want marijuana decriminalized at the federal level.

Their bill, Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (MORE Act), would also remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, CNBC reported. States would be permitted to create their own policies for marijuana.

Harris said, “Times have changed – marijuana should not be a crime.”

National support for marijuana law reform is increasing nationwide, and this is the most comprehensive bill regarding marijuana law reform yet.

Justin Strekal of NORML said, “This is the most comprehensive and functional legislation put forth.”

The MORE Act is expected to be introduced to the Senate this week. Republicans are expected to oppose the comprehensive bill.
